10th Anniversary Celebration Fund
In 2008, eKhaya eKasi Art & Education Center opened its doors, providing arts, literacy, health and economic development opportunities to children and adults in Khayelitsha, South Africa.
Next year the Center will host a special event recognizing its 10th anniversary. We want to emphasize that this is much more than just a birthday party.
In keeping with local tradition, the event will be a gathering to acknowledge eKhaya eKasi’s rootedness in the community; in the spirit of ubuntu, its success and growth are linked to local participation.
The first generation of children, who were just pre-schoolers when the center opened, are now teens. The celebration will feature their first community production, a much-anticipated African version of the Wizard of Oz that has been two years in the making.
We will honor the Center’s presence as a space of leadership development for women and youth, and look forward to the promise that the children participating in today’s programs will be leading them in ten year’s time.
Our staff team will also be reaching milestones, as our Director Lulama Sihlabeni will complete her training as a Sangoma (Traditional Healer), and our B&B Manager Yoliswa Thembani will graduate with a degree in Social Work.
Ten years ago at our grand opening, we budgeted for 100 guests but ended up feeding nearly 300! We expect a substantial turnout again in 2018.
Please help us to honor the hard work of our staff and participants and welcome the community by making a donation to our 10th Anniversary Celebration Fund.
Any amount helps… and with the $US currently valued at over R13, your contribution goes a long way!
