eKhaya eKasi's 10th year ... and you!

Nine years ago today, Art Aids Art opened eKhaya eKasi’s doors for the first time, providing arts and literacy for children and parents, economic development for unemployed mothers, and life-saving health education for a community battling myths and stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.

Next year the Center will host a special event recognizing its 10th anniversary. The original group of children, who were just pre-schoolers when the center opened, are now teens. The celebration will feature their first community production, a much-anticipated African version of the Wizard of Oz that has been two years in the making.

In keeping with local tradition, the event will be a gathering to acknowledge eKhaya eKasi’s rootedness in the community; in the spirit of ubuntu, its success and growth are linked to local participation.

We will honor the Center’s role as a space of leadership development for women and youth, and look forward to the promise that the children participating in today’s programs will be leading them in ten year’s time.

Our staff team will also be reaching milestones, as our Director Lulama Sihlabeni completes her training as a Sangoma (Traditional Healer), and our B&B Manager Yoliswa Thembani becomes eKhaya eKasi’s first college graduate with a degree in Social Work.

Your spirit and support have made the first ten years possible.
Please help us to honor the hard work of our staff and participants, and to expand our programing to meet the increasing demand for life-transforming services that eKhaya eKasi offers.

Thank you,

Dorothy & Tom, co-founders
